Meet Your Baker

Hello to all my gluten-free friends!

I have been in the Butte County community since 1997 and living amidst the joyful chaos of my bustling household. Alongside my husband Sims and two daughters, Kylee and Karlee, our home is a lively mix of dogs, a cat, a duck, and a spirited flock of 30+ chickens. Affectionately known as the ‘crazy chicken momma,’ I’ve seamlessly blended my love for these feathery companions into my business, The Hen Den, where I craft mouthwatering gluten-free treats using their farm-fresh eggs.

In February 2019, life took an unexpected turn with a diagnosis of Celiac Disease. Navigating a gluten-free lifestyle presented challenges, inspiring me to uncover safe and delicious options in the Chico area. The summer of 2021 marked a turning point when my oldest daughter, Kylee, also received a Celiac diagnosis. As an empty nester now, I was ready to revisit cherished family recipes, transforming favorites into gluten-free delights and giving rise to The Hen Den as it stands today.

Operating under a CFO permit from Butte County, I bring the joy of gluten-free treats to life from my home. While a physical storefront may be absent, you can discover my creations at Sweet Bean Coffee House in Chico and Marigold Marketplace in Durham. Of course, I’m always ready for your custom orders too.
